the jabs

hmmmm to get vaccinated or not to get vaccinated? hhmmmm.
2 and a half weeks in thailand, beach not jungle...

not
1. scared of needles
2. expensive - the same amount of money could buy me better food therefore decreasing the risk.
3. don't really know if i need to.
4. false sense of security.
5. been to the jungles of malaysia and didnt get vaccinated and didnt get anything.

to
1. it might help me not get sick
2. peace of mind.
3. i dont want to spend my holiday in a thai hospital.
4. overcome my fear of needles.
5. hmmmm cant think of another one.

the vaccinations we are talking about are hepatitis a, b and c, polio (dont think i need to), typhoid and tetanus. and malaria and dengue (sp?) hmmmmm

anyone got any advice?

You definately need hep a & b. There is no vaccine for hep c. Don't wory about polio. You take tablets for malaria prophylaxis, it is not an injection. Thyphoid would be a good idea if expenses allow. Hep A: $80 Hep B: $40 Typhoid: $50 Malaria tablets (must be started one week before and continued for one week after travel would be covered by health care card if you need four weeks worth or less (ie $4.60)

I tried posting a comment before but it didn't take :( Im computer stupid! Im pretty clever with other things though, like making up random songs about donkeys & the best way to tickle Vashti. Hey maybe thats what would help your jabbing scaries! A good tickling! Dont be scared little monkey, you may get a banana after it!

jess and i just got yellow fever vaccine for the jungle and it didn´t hurt. ask the nurse for a lollypop, it helps. we got it free, crazeee. now we can chill knowing we is safe. only, we´re not allowed to eat eggs or drink alcohol for 10 days.

you can do it vashti!

I know you've already asked my advice, but more eloquently, perhaps:
I think you should really get Hep A and B and, yeah, maybe Typhoid. Malaria tablets are not really neccesary in almost all of Thailand, although Ko Chang is one of the spots you may wanna have it. You can get doxycycline really cheap in Thai pharmacies, over the counter. On the other hand, Thai hospitals are mostly less bad than you think, as is most of the infrastructure etc, in the tourist areas anyway.

Also, what you eat is unlikely to affect the things you are getting vaccinated for - that'll just give you runny poos/gut cramps/etc.

Hooray!
